This is a high-profile opportunity for a strategic financial leader to join a major State Government initiative focused on digital innovation and small business support. As the Principal Project Accountant/Analyst, you will act as the financial backbone for a key departmental project, taking full ownership of end-to-end financial management to ensure sustainable and transparent delivery. You will work at the intersection of corporate finance and project delivery, providing the high-level analysis and robust frameworks necessary to translate complex data into actionable executive insights.
In this role, you will be expected to identify financial risks early and develop proactive mitigation strategies to keep project expenditure strictly aligned with the approved pipeline. You will lead the charge in creating detailed costing models and accurate forecasts that directly influence the department's strategic direction. Comprehensive Financial Oversight: Manage and contribute to the end-to-end delivery of project accounting services, including budgeting, financial management, and performance reporting.
Core Technical Delivery: Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, alongside comprehensive general project accounting duties to support the project lifecycle.
Advanced Financial Modelling: Develop high-quality, detailed costing models and accurate forecasts to underpin informed decision-making across the project.
Executive Briefing & Reporting: Prepare sophisticated financial reports, briefing materials, and formal submissions for presentation to program boards and senior executive leadership.
Commercial Analysis & Tendering: Lead financial analysis and provide expert support for tender and bid evaluations, while overseeing contract management and monitoring vendor financial performance.
Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain collaborative, constructive relationships with internal clients and stakeholders to resolve emergent financial issues.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all project financial activities remain fully compliant with the Queensland Government financial management frameworks and standards.
Leadership & Team Culture: Promote a workplace culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion while proactively managing the performance and conduct of your staff.
Government Experience: Previous experience working within a government environment is strictly required for this role to ensure a deep understanding of public sector financial frameworks.
Technical Mastery: Candidates must demonstrate a strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and reporting within a project-based environment.
Contract: 12-Month Initial contract with a high possibility of extension.
Location: CBD-based with flexible Hybrid working arrangements.
